In South Florida, the majority of the year we are using air conditioning and don’t realize our A/C system can also be used to heat.  All air conditioning systems are equipped with some way to heat. Typically it is an electric heat strip; 5, 7.5, or 10 kW.

In some cases, homeowners turn on the heat and notice a burning smell and might even see some smoke.  This is caused from dirt and dust being burnt off the heat strip as we do not have a lot of days in South Florida to use heat. It is still recommended to turn the heat on periodically so this doesn’t happen to you. We also recommend you have your heater serviced once per year.

Your home may use a heat is a heat pump system to heat your home. This uses a reversing valve and refrigerant to do so. We also recommend regular heat pump service to ensure the heat pump is operating properly.
